Electric vs. Hydronic

Danfoss Floor Heat

Basically, electric floor heating and water based floor heating offers the same superior heating comfort. However 3 specific subjects are in favour of the electrical solution

Low Height Build Up Is Well Suited For Renovation

Electric floor heating is better suited for renovation purposes. With electric floor heating, you do not have to dig up the existing floor to make room for water pipes in 4" to 5" depth.

Simply roll out the self-adhesive Danfoss LX mat to the existing floor, thin set over the mats and lay your new tiles – and you have a new floor at a total additional height of 1/8" plus tile height.

Quick Reaction Means Good Heating Economy

Electric floor heating is the better solution unless you want to have the heating turned on permanently. Because electric floor heating cables or mats are placed just under the floor covering, the floor reacts quickly and without delay – whereas water based floor heating is covered with a 4" to 5" concrete slab causing delays in reaction time for several hours.

Electric floor heating is therefore very well suited for advanced timer-controls, so that you only heat the room when you are actually at home, this is sound economy and good for the environment.

Simply Less Complicated

Electric floor heating is significantly less complicated, easier to plan, cheaper to install, less expensive to purchase and you can do a lot of the work yourself
